Farewell Louis

Well here’s the post I never wanted to write.

We had to say goodbye to our beloved boy on Christmas Day, just two days off his twelfth birthday.

To say we’re heartbroken is an understatement so I won’t say any more other than to thank Louis for being, as we always told him every day, “such a good boy”.

  1. Just thought to look and see what was going on…so sorry to see Louis has gone. The website made me feel as if I really knew him. Again sorry for such a sad entry.

    • Hi there,

Thank you for your kind words.

We all miss Louis. He was part of the furniture here, actually he was so welded onto his sofa that we still expect him to be there when we turn round and look at the sofa.

He was a good boy who gave us years of fun. Even in his old age he’d insist on playing with me after his evening routine. It didn’t matter if I was worn out; he’d stand and stare until I gave in and played with him.

The house was very quiet without him so we decided to get a rescue dog. Gerry is a 10 month old GSD that has many of the characteristics of Louis.

He’s a strong pup and Sue is working hard to train him to be a good boy. He’s very clever, takes after me!

  2. Oh no, I’m sorry to read this, I haven’t checked in for a while. My sincerest condolences – I’m sure you have a Louis shaped hole in your heart. I lost my old boy 18 months ago at 12yrs and 1 day. If only our beloved pets could go on as long as we do. X

    • Hi there,

Thank you for your message. It’s appreciated. We were sorry to learn that you’d lost your boy a while back.

You’re right, there’s a big Louis sized hole in our hearts and that isn’t healing.

After a month of silence in the house – we missed the click clack of Louis’ paws on the floor – we decided to get a rescue dog. Gerry is a ten month old GSD. A clever boy who reminds us of the “fun” of puppydom.

All of us constantly slip up and call him Louis.

He’s helped us feel better but we’ll always miss Louis.

Hope all is well there in Australia.

  3. Sorry for your loss. I found your website when my dog was a pup (he’s almost 8 now) and I was using your weight chart but got invested in the wanderings of Louis. He was clearly loved and looked to have had a wonderful life.

  4. Kellie,

Thanks for the message, it’s appreciated. There’s not a day goes by that we don’t think of Louis. I wish I’d have played with him more when he pestered!

I’m glad the weight chart proved useful – it’s certainly the most visited page.

Enjoy your pup. Even though he’s 8 I bet he still has puppy-like moments. Give him a scruff of the head from England for us.

  5. We lost Louis brother Gamba back in late 2017. Heartbroken and still miss him everyday. I remember seeing them both as young puppies they were so funny. Hope you are well and good luck with your Gerry!

    • Ade,

Sorry for the slow reply. I don’t check the comments too often as I get distracted looking at pictures of the pups. I get the missing Gamba everyday bit; I really do. Louis is ever present in our minds. Gerry is doing well; a clever boy. We had so much joy and fun with Louis that we wanted to pay it back with a rescue dog. Sue has done wonders with him.
