Found out that videos no longer worked due to an out of date plugin. Sorted out a new one and the videos are now back up and running. This gave us the opportunity to laugh at the old boy. After all he was 8 on the 27th December!

We've added an extra chart showing Louis' weight against how many weeks old; makes it easier to read and compare.

Some interesting Linnaean dog terminology.

Fatball Felony

We think Louis has formed a truce with a local squirrel. Normally he kicks off if he sees a squibble in the back garden but he’s allowed one access to a fatball that was housed in an anti-squibble cage and hung out for the birds.

So…first thing this morning when he was let out to ruin the grass and pick up mud for depositing on the carpet he raced over to the tree and hoovered the fatball before Sue could see what he was up to. Memories of the time we fed him two ducks (It shouldn’t happen to a vet) came flooding back so we are keeping an eye on him.

He was also a bad lad on Boxing Day. Whilst we were making soup out of the turkey leftovers he managed to pilfer some of the turkey bones – something we have been very mindful of keeping him away from over the years. He’s also started to graze kitchen worktops and tables if you are not in the room so we need to try and get him out of that habit.

Anyway – we never have a camera ready to catch him up to his tricks but we can always catch him doing his second most favourite hobby – kipping.

Heat Seeking Hound

We found an old fireplace hiding behind an electric fire not long after we moved into our new home. The fireplace had a few broken firebricks so we smashed them out last weekend and put a new fireback in. After leaving it for a week we have set a few fires going this weekend to dry things out. (I checked the chimney for leaks beforehand).

Since we got the fire going Louis has turned into a real fire-hound. He’s always liked lying in the sun and today he enjoyed a double-whammy; sunshine and a real fire.

Here he is in in action, (for action read inaction):-

In our old home Louis never bothered with the gas fire in the lounge. A real fire, however, makes a difference as, as I type this, he’s curled up as close as he can get to the fire. Maybe it’s an instinctual behaviour for hounds as part of the deal whereby Louis keeps our back garden lion-free.

Louis – – – – – SIT!!

Louis has always been pretty good at responding to commands but today he took it to a whole new level.

Here is his interpretation of the “SIT” command:-

Stop Press – Louis Awake

We’re only a couple of weeks away from the longest night so I’m off to work and coming home in the dark. The weather is miserable so it’s hard to drum up the enthusiasm to take Louis out for a walk. There’s no guilt trip here; Louis can see it’s peeing down and then we have a hard time playing chase around the house to get his lead on so that we can all enjoy “the walk”.

The good news is that our new home has a longer lounge so we can play with his throw toy indoors without worrying. So, at long last, we’ve managed to take a few photos of Louis awake rather than Louis asleep.

Here he is:-

Go on, take the toy.

We had a good time playing tonight but we wished we had a camera with a much shorter shutter lag as we missed loads of brilliant photo opportunities of Louis emerging from behind the curtains.
